NEWS RELEASE

Robert  Fraumann plays piano at The National Prayer Breakfast

"Bob" was invited by Georgia Senator, Johnny Isakson, to play the piano at the 58th annual National Prayer Breakfast, in Washington, DC, at the Washington Hilton Hotel on February 4, 2010.

Leaders from every state in the Union: business, military, political, education, science and labor were in attendance, continuing a tradition started in Seattle during the depression when  many people were out of work and in poverty. The leaders decided to do something about it: they prayed. They gathered one morning to share a meal and talk with God.

These breakfasts spread across America, eventually making their way to Washington. President Eisenhower asked a group of Senators if he could join their prayer breakfast, and it became a national event. Today, presidents and dignitaries come together from every corner of the globe to pray.

Over 3000 people attended the breakfast including 170 heads of state from foreign counties.  Among those in attendance were:

  • The President

  • Vice-President

  • Secretary of State

  • Speaker of the House

  • Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff

  • President of Asbury University

  • Heisman Trophy Winner, Tim Tebow

Senator Isakon is a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Marietta, GA, where Bob has been Minister of Music for 26 years.  Bob has also served churches in the Atlanta area, namely: The Sandy Springs United Methodist Church and The East Point First United Methodist Church,

Bob played several selections including:

  • Symphony V - Beethoven, with How Great Thou Art

  • Warsaw Concerto - Addinsell, with To God Be The Glory

  • Sonata in C - Mozart, with Let There Be Peace On Earth

  • Claire de Lune - Debussy, with Sweet Hour Of Prayer

  • Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven & Just A Closer Walk With Thee

  • Nocturne - Chopin, with His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Bob says it was an honor and privilege to share his Christian faith with his piano arrangements.

These recordings are available on his website, www.bobfraumann.com  as recorded on his CD, To God Be The Glory

History
National Prayer Breakfast
The annual National Prayer Breakfast occurs the first Thursday in February every year after Congress convenes. Leaders in business, labor, education, and science from every state in the Union, as well as military leaders from each branch of service join the members from the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. Although the political, economic, philosophical, and religious viewpoints represented are varied, the result is a fellowship of concerned citizens, dedicated to affirming the moral, ethical, and spiritual values upon which our nation was founded.

It's a tradition that actually began many years ago in the city of Seattle. It was the height of the Great Depression, and most people found themselves out of work. Many fell into poverty. Some lost everything.

The leaders of the community did all that they could for those who were suffering in their midst. And then they decided to do something more: they prayed. It didn't matter what party or religious affiliation to which they belonged. They simply gathered one morning as brothers and sisters to share a meal and talk with God.

These breakfasts soon sprouted up throughout Seattle, and quickly spread to cities and towns across America, eventually making their way to Washington. A short time after President Eisenhower asked a group of Senators if he could join their prayer breakfast, it became a national event. And today, as I see presidents and dignitaries here from every corner of the globe, it strikes me that this is one of the rare occasions that still brings much of the world together in a moment of peace and goodwill.
